    Hi,

I need some urgent help on this topic. I need to know how I can distribute the default man hours for the resource into all the activities the resource is assigned to for the period. e.g. An engineer is assigned to five PARALLEL activities all happening at the same time. I want Primavera to take the default hours let’s say 40 hours/ week and distribute 8 hours to each of the five activities. I am desperately waiting for response as I have finish allocating man hours in 2 days and submit a report to the client.

    Thanks
    Ali Imran

    ok

    1. For the resource that you want to use make the default units/time equal to 8

    2. Highlight all 5 activities and right click and select assign then select resources and choose the resource that you set up.

    zpalffy,

I tried what you said but the issue remains still there. What Primavera did is assign the default 8 hours/day to all the 5 activities. Making the resource work 40 hours a day for the 5 parallel actvities. e.g. Have a look at my case below. A resource is assigned to 5 parallel activities each of 5 days duration. Primavera distributes the 40 hours assigned to each activity from monday to friday but WHAT I NEED IS PRIMAVERA TO NOT EXCEED 8 HOURS ON EACH DAY e.g. on monday primavera should distribute 1.6 hours to each of the five parallel activites

    CURRENT SITUATION:
Activity # Dur. Start Finish Planned Hours mon tue wed thu fri
    Activity 1 5d May 1 2011 May 05 2011 40 8 8 8 8 8
    Activity 2 5d May 1 2011 May 05 2011 40 8 8 8 8 8
    Activity 3 5d May 1 2011 May 05 2011 40 8 8 8 8 8
    Activity 4 5d May 1 2011 May 05 2011 40 8 8 8 8 8
    Activity 5 5d May 1 2011 May 05 2011 40 8 8 8 8 8

    160 40 40 40 40 40

    DESIRED RESULT:
Activity # Dur. Start Finish Planned Hours mon tue wed thu fri
    Activity 1 5d May 1 2011 May 05 2011 8 1.6 1.6 1.6 1.6 1.6
    Activity 2 5d May 1 2011 May 05 2011 8 1.6 1.6 1.6 1.6 1.6
    Activity 3 5d May 1 2011 May 05 2011 8 1.6 1.6 1.6 1.6 1.6
    Activity 4 5d May 1 2011 May 05 2011 8 1.6 1.6 1.6 1.6 1.6
    Activity 5 5d May 1 2011 May 05 2011 8 1.6 1.6 1.6 1.6 1.6

    40 8 8 8 8 8

    zpalffy,

But that is only one week. If in the next week one actvitiy finishes, then I want the 8 hr/day to be distributed into 4 remaining activities that will become 2 hrs/day for each of the 4 activities.

another way is to add a column in the activity detail window under the resource tab by right clicking in the lower window of the resource tab and select customize resource columns

add the column for Budgeted Units/Time it can be found under the general list.

this is where you would put in the 1.6 or 2 or 8 or what ever you want.

also if you do not want the manhours to exceed 8 hours per day go to the Resource tab then click on the units/prices and set the Max Units / Time to 8

This can be done from resource assignment window where i can manually edit the hours assigned to each activity. But what i am looking for is a method where primavera does the dirstribution automatically. it will take me forever to level the hours for all activities for all resources.

you do it under the activity deatil window under the resource tab on the bottom window

it automatically distributes the hours lineraly across the activity from start to finish,

if you want to change how the hours are distributed you can assign it to a curve or make your own custom curve
