Greetings to everyone !!!!!
I am new to this forum. Using primavera p3 for about a year. Recently I was asked to compare planned progress of work with the actual progress. Simply, my GM asked me to show where we are now compared with where we should be.
Please guide me what could be done to compare planned with actual.
Regards |

you have to take the original schedule without any progress and assign that as your baseline.
Make sure to copy the baseline schedule before you assign it as a baseline because it will be hidden after it is assigned.

Dear sir, Thanks for the reply. But what I need to know is the way to compare planned vs actual graphically. Something if we glance at, we can know if we are on time or delayed. Please show me how we can make a planned graph vs actual graph. Planned graph must show percentage of work to be accomplished each month. Actual graph must show actual work completed each month. Please help me how to do this as my GM wants the kind of report I mentioned above. Thanks in advance |

Thanks for the reply.
I made the planned s-curve for manhours & cost separately. Please tell me how should I compare this with actual manhours & cost curves ?
Thanks

if you are progressing your schedule and you have acutals then everything to the left of the data date line will be actuals and everything to the rigth will be forecasted
whta you really want to do is to have a baseline schedule with no progress this will be your planned curves
you copy the baseline and start to progress this schedule at regular intervals.
Then in the updated schedule you assign the baseline as target 1
Then in graph in the content tab you check the box to include target 1
now you are compairing the planned data (baseline) against the actual data (updated progressed schedule)

Dear sir,
when we update the schedule in particular month, we change the early start & finish dates to actual start & finish dates.
But in the activity form for each activity, there are "Res" & "cost" icons which have "actual to date" options. Shouldn't we enter the actual cost & actual manhours in this table ? I think then only we can compare the planned manpower & cost curves with the actual manpower & cost curves.
or is there another way ?

the actual cost you will have to input but the manhours should calculate if you have the setting tiurned on
also after each update you need to perform a period close out see attachment

Dear Sir, I am P6 beginer but in me that i can be very proficient if i get a right and step by step answers. I have joined this group because i was looking for an answer about how to extract the Most Demanding reports and i reached at this website. It attracted me because of your detailed and step by step pictorial answers which really forced me to join this group. So i want you to kindly let me know how to extract Most Demanding Reports from Primavera 6 e.g. 1.Weight Factor, 2.Baseline Progress(cumulative), 3.Revised Completion Progress, 4.Actual Progress This Week, 5.Forecast Planned for Next Week, 6.Actual Progress (cumulative) 7.Weightage: Site Preliminaries, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, SEC Power Supply And BASELINE, Catch up, ACTUAL. There is another question that i am asked to develop and precommissioning plan which i have never done but given few papers which have things written on that but i don't know how and where to start. When i asked to engineers that what activities will be performed plz provide they say you will provide not us. so you guide and write me step by step (pictorial will be better). I will always be thankful to you. Thanks, SZ

Feel free to write even in short but at least guide.
Question: May i know from any plan on P6 that how many times an activity or the project was updated and what were the values entered? If yes then how?
Question: How can i calculate these from P6: i) Baseline ii) Catch-up iii) Actual iv) Planned progress (plz must answer) v) Catch-up Program (Must Answer) vi) Achieved Progres (Must Answer)
Waiting for the answers even in short.
Thanks kalbe00@hotmail.com

Can anyone tell me the following: I have the following percentages for engineering, constructino & Procurement and have to calculate the followings: The Achieved Values are as follow: ENGINEERING (October Week Wise): 1st. 99.47% 2nd. 99.48% 3rd. 99.48% 4th. 99.55% PROCUREMENT (Oct week wise) 1st. 83.98% 2nd. 84.58% 3rd. 85.20% 4th. 86.22% Construction: (october, weekwise): 1st 62.20% 2nd 64.16% 3rd. 65.78% 4th. 67.59% OVERALL (Acheived Progress in October Week Wise): 1st. 74.71% 2nd. 75.91% 3rd. 76.96% 4th. 78.29% NOW THE QUESTION IS THAT HOW CAN I CALCULATE THE ABOVE AS MONTHLY OVERALL PROGRESS (dont want week wise) FOR EXAMPLE: Monthly Actual Progress: ????? in percentage same as above. kindly tell me the formula or guide in excel.

I am not sure that I understand the question you already have the Overall percentage you have it by week and at that 4 week that is the cumulative % complete thur the month.
monthly actual progress would be the difference between 74.71% and 78.29% or actually the number of the last week in September lets assume it was 70.00%
so 78.29% Last week in October - 70.00% Last week in September 8.29% the difference is the monhtly progress for October

if you are using the cumulative you cant have a number higher than the previous months so you cant have 69.04% the 55% you can't go backwards.
I don't understand 98% in the 3rd week 98% of what ? can't be the overall percentage. |

my question is very simple but may be due to barrier of language i am unable to explain. LET ME TAKE ANOTHER TRY. I have Three domains......Engineering, Procurement and Construction and they have three following headings in excel: Baseline: 100% Revised Progress: 99.84% (not real just for example) Achieved Progress: 99.55% The above one is only for one domain (E.g. Engineering) so there are two more for construction and procurement and have the same headings only figures are changed The last Calculation area is OVERALL at the bottom of excel sheet that have the following Headings: Baseline: Revised Progress (overall for all three domains): Achieved Progress (overall for all three domains): This is the area where i get Overall calculations on weekly basis for the above domains. QUESTION: I want to calculate Overall monthly Revised Progress and Achieved Progress individually. For example Construction four week ................ so how can i SUM all four weeks and calculate? what would be the formula to get overall monthly percentage of ONE Domain ???? and same as for other domains. Hope this will clear the picture.............. |

you have the cumulative for the engineering
what you need to do is to weight each domain
how much of the overall project is the engineering worth ? how much of the overall project is the procurement worth ? how much of the overall project is the construction worth ?
you can do it on manhours or dollars or what ever merhod that you choose
so lets weigh each domain and say for example that the engineering was worth 30% the procurement was worth 10% can the construction was worth 60%
Individuallly each domain is cumulatively progressed as follows now the Engineering is 15% complete now the Procurement is 2% complete now the Construction is 3% complete
so to get the overall % complete now the Engineering is 15% complete = 30% * 15% = 4.5% now the Procurement is 2% complete = 10% * 2% = 0.2% now the Construction is 3% complete = 60% * 3% = 1.8%
so overall you are 6.5% complete it is the sum of all the weighted percentages |
